Discovery Hollow and Garden

Play, dig, plant, learn, create and explore Ramsey County’s best nature play area.

Discovery Hollow Nature Play Area and Garden is located next to Tamarack Nature Center’s main building. Tamarack Nature Center is about 20 minutes north of downtown St. Paul, Minn. From St. Paul, take I-35E North to Highway 96, go east  on Highway 96 to Otter Lake Road and turn north. Tamarack is located approximately 2½ miles on the left-hand side at 5287 Otter Lake Road (Map to TNC).

Discovery Hollow and Garden Hours

Sunday-Wednesday: 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.
Thursday-Saturday: 9 a.m. - Dusk (1/2 hour after sunset)
There is no admission fee for individuals using the trails or Discovery Hollow and Garden. Donations are gratefully accepted.

Organized Groups

Organized groups not associated with a naturalist-led program or facility rental are required to give advance notification and obtain a special use permit by calling 651-407-5350. There may be a fee. Find out more.​

Summer Group Programming: Sensory Quests

The perfect field trip for day cares, camps, summer school classes and other summer groups looking for a chance to play with purpose! Each sensory quest is a two-hour nature experience that includes one hour of Naturalist-led programming and one hour of free play in the Discovery Hollow Nature Play Area.

Sensory quests are designed for groups of 12-100, but different scheduling options are available.
